WPdetour. I mean, I was sidetracked, to face a miscellany of sobering headlines-texts-images, thrown at you to make finding your own point of view more… interesting. Intended effect – “countering propaganda”, per blog motto.

For starters, if you haven’t done so on YouTube, watch Alex Jones’ vid “50 Random Facts on What Happened to America”, embedded by sakerfa on July 6, 2010. And if the rest of the Home Page is not enough, click Environment tab (top right) – blood-curdling wildlife mistreatment photos, PDF links, good quotes by big men…, posted between 2007 and the current PB-gate, or was in “oilmageddon”, “oilocalypse”…? (credit to dprogram.net – not using any of these)

Great research find for my blog genre typology, no analytic interference, pure anonymous text-colour vehemence – THANKS.

WPfind. A couple from NY starring, by the looks of it, on the Indian cultural landscape – a book coming up, which they’re promising not to name “Our Delhi Struggle”! Dave and Jenny ask, “Did we ever enjoy ‘white privilege’?”

My proposed thought experiment would be, “Did we ever have to give up ‘white privilege’ on somebody else’s terms? Would we draw the line between “privilege” and “democratic/human right” in the same location/way?…” – and any similar, likely against-the-grain, Qs.

Para-ping. Science, Business, Politics, Living – with Energy and the Environment in view. “On Our Radar: A Bushmeat Crisis” by John Collins Rudolf July 6, 2010, 9:45 am – NYT-Green links to several articles, among which a couple on putatively “constructive” measures being taken,
== The Obama administration announces $2 billion in stimulus funding for solar power generation and manufacturing. [sounds good]
== Accelerated evolution is the latest tactic in an elusive quest to engineer high-performance oil-degrading bacteria. [how dangerous CAN this kind of bio-engineering actually be, though? – cf. post in prog. Albedo Engineering – The “Power of Science” Can Kick Back Bad]

Original ping: “Study Affirms Consensus on Climate Change” by Justin Gillis June 22, 2010, 7:15 am.

…compiled a database of 1,372 climate researchers… Of the top 200 researchers, only 2.5 percent fell into the dissenter camp. That is consistent with past work, including opinion polls, suggesting that 97 to 98 percent of working climate scientists accept the evidence for human-induced climate change…

Para-ping. Ha! Someone else who feels the same way about the clash of architectural styles (aghgrhrhrh) of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) [NB! Comments WORTH reading], AND makes a good point with a Canada Day vid.
CBurrell also maintains a weekly G.K. Chesterton blog (2007-present) – should a fan swing around.

WPfind. The day I had the pleasure of discovering and linking ES to Chubby Checker’s arrangement of the Jewish token song Hava Nagilah, my “party” crashed at Modernity’s article open-violent-antisemitism-and-facebook What would it take for the “crown of evolution” as a whole to ascend to Chubby’s realization – it’s a no brainer to choose between left hand inflicting on right hand stinging-burning ecosonic wounds AND the “highs” of full-bodied, healthy joy?! Check out the great (and controversial) André Rieu + orchestra for a more “classical” sound, equally envigorating.

while we’re at it, more André Rieu ecosonizing with Italian audience :):):) – Rigoletto, Traviata, Carmen, Aida – HAAAAARD to tell if he’s the star, or the Italian public – Wow!

  • BTY, André Rieu and orchestra will be giving a concert at the AIR CANADA CENTRE, Toronto, on Sun, Dec 12, 2010, 8:00 pm. Not that I’d be able to attend (:

Para-ping. Inspired by a North American Cree Indian Legend (IMAGINE the geographical distance of this “ecosonic ping”!) about warriors who stand up for Mother Earth, which humans have made sick, SEA Greenpeacers ID themselves as:

…individuals who believe that: “When the last tree is cut, the last river poisoned, and the last fish dead, we will discover that we can’t eat money…”
…behind the non-violent direct actions, the lobbying and the research work that we do, we are just a ragtag group of ecologists, visionaries, activists, parents, internet junkies, outdoor enthusiasts and ordinary folks…

    Meta-pings:
    == Greepeace Thailand
Solar Energy interest and Deep Green. Read, if you know Thai, or else, browse photos.
    == Greenpeace Indonesia
If you know Bahasa Indonesia, read about the Solar World Cup, and many other initiatives…, or watch a coulpe of YouTube vid’s in English.

  • ==== Rainbow Warrior III (remember the Cree legend about defending Mother Earth?):

==== Another about a firm accused of illegal deforestation:

Para-ping(s). “A 17 [currently anywhere b/n 17 and 19-20???, but still likely the youngest SE-listed author] year old boy from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, IN, Earth, Solar System, Milky Way”, spends hours gazing through his telescope, “dabbles in Photoshop”, is a “self-confessed “skepteen”, for the simple reason that for a a better society, you have to be skeptical of authority and popular beliefs”, and started this blog because he needed to “do something” when the realization hit that “even school looked like something straight out of George Orwell’s novel 1984. It was when I realized the ultimate irony of school: education prevents you from the actual learning.”

Remember Neil Postamn’s The End of Education? John Taylor Gatto’s Dumbing Us Down?

== A sci-fi story about the life-death cycle of galaxies – writing talent that can even impress seasoned adults.
== his Ram Dialogues blog, where posts+comments discover the difference between “having fun” and “laughing at”.

Para-ping. I think, the 1st ES-listed blog with multiple authors! A dozen young American women write on the blog, and the praise they receive is telling, “…People like yourselves can put a better representation of Muslims than many people. Mashallah, keep up the superb work…”
Just look at the cross-cultural pings they’re sowing and growing: Rock Pool Lexicon

Para-ping. Excellent to-the-point segue into a newly pressed blog – by fellow Toronto resident, Melissa Greer:

WPfind. The little girl in the quote below grew up to be a freelance writer, and you can picture what she writes about dolphins and the PB oil spill, whether you click More… or not.
    Brenda, I SECOND.

…One fin extended up as if to wave. Then he slammed it down onto the water’s surface, sending a huge wave right onto my small frame. I was soaked. And before the dolphin plunged back into the water, he paused, looked at me with those black glassy eyes and laughed… He thought splashing me was pretty damn funny and because of his bold attitude I never forgot him.

  • Never saw a dolphin live when I was a kid, until as a uni student I made a cross-country trip to Vancouver, but to this day, I remember fondly a cartoon, Oum, le dauphin blanc (Engl. Zoom, the White Dolphin, It. Zum, il delfino blanco, Pol. Biały delfin Um, Jap. イルカと少年…)
Still love the theme song, and how the children’s pet Jean-Sebastien speaks dolphin-ese. A YouTube fragment in French below, theme song in “cheerful” “joy” and “creepy” “suspense” instrumental arrangements:

[July 2, 2010: tried v.v.v.v.v.v.v. hard and couldn’t resist adding to ES’s database the original theme song; a pity display is kinda bleached out, but sound’s ok.

Para-ping. Worthy of respect record of – to use the blog’s subtitle – “Dispatches from the Youth Climate Movement”, which grew out of youth reports from the International Climate Negotiations in Montreal in 2005, currently with 300+ writers from countries around the world:

WPfind. Summer Burkes’ pithy humour, bull’s eye hits, prose with a spring to its step – despite morbid subject:

Look no further than the bleak death-history of the Exxon Valdez cleanup workers to see how this is going to pan out… Here’s how to let them win. Don’t speak out when you see evil, because you’re scared of the hard-to-control attention-spotlight…
I get this feeling Youtube is going to save the world
Or maybe you think your voice doesn’t count. Or maybe you’re telling yourself that line, because it’s a good reason to continue to be lazy and wait for the end of the world, which will be as ugly or as beautiful as you think you deserve.
Whose side are you on, anyway?
